Work, Earn & Learn

Apprenticeships are aimed at people aged 16-24 and are the proven way to train your workforce; they offer a means of attracting high calibre young people into business and industry.  Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to provide the next generation of employees with quality training to nationally agreed industry standards.  Apprenticeships can make your organisation more effective, productive and competitive by addressing your skills gaps directly, even in uncertain economic times.

We currently offer Apprenticeships in the following areas:

Administration Beauty Therapy Brickwork
Catering and Hospitality Carpentry and Joinery Customer Service
Engineering Hairdressing Childcare Learning & Development
Plumbing Retail Front of House

The National Apprenticeship Service will provide up to 5,000 Apprenticeship Grants for Employers of 16 and 17 year olds (AGE 16 and 17) with a value of £2,500 to encourage employers to take on unemployed 16-17 year olds as apprentices. More details

The length of an Apprenticeship varies depending on prior skills levels of the apprentice, the qualification being obtained and industry sector. Generally, Apprenticeships take between one and three years to complete.

Like all employees, apprentices must still receive a wage. The minimum wage for apprentices is £95 a week. However, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages – in fact, research has found that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week.

This varies from programme to programme. Some of the programmes can be done fully in the workplace, which no requirement to attend College. Other programmes could have some taught sessions in College, along with workplace training. This depends on the type of job being done, or the elements of training being undertaken.
