Governor Profile - Angela Bathgate
Meet Angela
I grew up in the local area a fair few moons ago, and attended Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School back in the days when nearly everyone took Latin, and the staff were almost as scared of the Headmistress as were the pupils! I then headed south to read French at Bristol University.
By the time I moved back to the area in 1994, via Northern Ireland, some globe-trotting, and finally Preston, we were a family of 5, including 3 young children who attended our local village primary school. I spent more than 10 years happily serving as a school governor there, and latterly as chair of the curriculum committee. (Paul Ineson tells me this latest assignment will be ‘much the same only bigger numbers’ – I’m about to find out!)
I worked in HR and payroll for a private manufacturing company for 7 years, during which time I also indulged my interest in French literature by studying for a doctorate at Lancaster University, so, yes, I admit to being a closet geek with a dusty thesis about a niche French poet to her name! I do have other more commonplace interests such as cinema, book club, (gentle) jogging and cooking for friends, so please don’t avoid conversation on account of your French poetry being a bit rusty!
I came to LMC in 2006 as Deputy Personnel Manager and have enjoyed the process and challenge of learning to practise Personnel in the Education sector, especially, of course, while working with a great team of friendly (intelligent, helpful, hard-working, efficient, etc.) staff up on 6th floor!
The family have all grown up and left home, and are currently pursuing their dreams and ambitions working, studying and training in Sheffield, London and Reading respectively. It seemed a good moment to volunteer for the support staff governor position and to embrace a new perspective on the College. I hope to serve the College well and learn lots in the process.
