Meet Brian Jefferson

Brian Jefferson

As a recently retired airline management pilot I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as a Governor of the Lancaster & Morecambe College. There can be no more important link between young people and the their adult lives than the education they receive, and the transition to earnings phase of learning is the most important phase of all. The College has an excellent reputation in this field, and I hope my small contribution will assist the efforts to maintain and improve on that standing.

My own early years began humbly enough on the Solway coast in Cumbria, and my education in Carlisle and at Bede College, Durham, provided the sound foundation for my professional career, initially in teaching, and then as a pilot in the Royal Air Force and later with British Aerospace and European Aviation. My career has turned my family into wanderers over the last 35 years, seeing service in many corners of the world from the USA & Canada to the West, to Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the East, and many points in between in the UK and Europe.

We have been settled permanently in Halton for the last ten years, during which time my son and two daughters have flown the nest and completed their own education, and are now quite independent. My wife Emily, a retired teacher, devotes her time to the Lancaster Grand Theatre and the Museum Service, and I can be found either flying part time with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, or assisting the Parish Council in the village to improve local recreational resources. I will one day put my GP14 back on the water, and would love to get back in the hills to do some walking.

Throughout my life, many of my out of work hours have been spent in support of young peoples recreational needs, in the Boys Brigade, with Youth Councils, the Scout movement, youth clubs, summer school provision and the Air Cadet organizations. I look forward to bringing the skills developed to the Board, and to meeting as many members of staff and students as possible.
