Leadership Academy Launch
High Quality Training and Development
The Lancaster and Morecambe School Sports Partnership’s Leadership Academy was launched on 3rd November hosted by Lancaster and Morecambe College.
The aim of the Leadership Academy is to provide regular, high quality, support, training and development for the best young leaders in the local area who are committed to actively volunteering within their school and/or community. Over the year they will complete up to 200 volunteering hours and receive guidance and further training from the Academy supported by LMC student mentors.
In total, 67 young sports leaders aged 14 to 19 from seven secondary schools and LMC attended the launch, which included a welcome from the College’s Further Education Sports Co-ordinator (FESCo) Nick Milner and the Lancaster Partnership Development Manager Clive Brench followed by leadership and communication activities and practical multiskills sessions led by the LMC students from the foundation degree in sports coaching.
Nick said ‘the day was an outstanding success with all young sports leaders actively engaged in developing their leadership skills. I expect the Academy to develop our young leaders further and the experience they gain will be invaluable for their future careers in sport.
Furthermore, their work in the community can only enhance the provision that our local sports clubs offer’. Any sports clubs wishing to sign up to be a partner with the Leadership Academy and use some of the highly motivated and skilled young sports leaders needs to contact Nick Milner on (01524) 521250 or email n.milner@lmc.ac.uk
