Coulson’s Challenge
49 guests enjoyed a fundraising lunch at Lancaster & Morecambe College’s Coulson’s Restaurant in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event was the culmination of an intensive six week’s hard work for students on “The Challenge”, a project run by LMC and Young People’s Services. The Challenge involved a team of 11 students attending college for two days each week, where they developed their skills in leadership, team working, marketing and presentation as they planned for the running of their event.
Chris Guest mentored the students throughout the challenge. He said “The students chose their own good cause for the event, and then had to think about how they could make the event relevant to local businesses to attend and obtain press coverage for it. They planned and costed the event and did their own publicity and marketing.”
Whilst working towards the challenge, the students also enjoyed an outdoor teambuilding day and gained qualifications in health & safety, food hygiene and alcohol awareness. Following on from the course, three of the students have successfully gained apprenticeship places and the remainder intend to undertake further study at LMC.
