LUMS Business Challenge
Green Army and Masterminds
On the morning of Wednesday 17th March 2010, eight students with their tutor, Kumar Jani from National Diploma in Business Year 2 at Lancaster and Morecambe College attended the finals of Sim Venture Business Challenge at Lancaster University Management School.
The eight students who made up two teams; Green Army and Masterminds entered the competition in early February 2010 by running a business game to get the highest valuation. Eight teams across North-West England were selected to attend the final at Lancaster University where they carried out various activities including the final round of the Business Challenge competition. Green Army took it hard when one of the team members made the bank close them down as they were £45,000 in debt resulting in them having to start again. One of the teams from Blackburn College came first and received a prize of £250. Prizes were presented by a representative from Ernest and Young.
Besides the Business Challenge competition, students spent part of the morning and part of the afternoon doing other team building activities. Lunch was carried out by a small business called Souped-Up which is owned by a Lancaster University graduate who did a short presentation in the afternoon about starting a small business enterprise.
All the students found the day to be interesting educational experience and got a taste of University environment. Out of eight students from Lancaster and Morecambe College who took part in the Business Challenge, seven students are hoping to go and study at University.
