Make Your Mark challenge
Students make their mark
Lancaster and Morecambe College Students were successful once again in reaching the North West regional final of the Make Your Mark challenge organised as part of Enterprise week 2009. The LMC team of First Diploma in Business students made it through to the final ten teams in the region from over 70,000 national entrants.
Team members Matt Newsham, Jordan Ingle, Skye Beswick and Vicky Connaughton then had to go up against the nine other regional finalists, pitching their idea to a panel of judges at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Their challenge was to come up with a “Cool Creation” a new idea for a profitable business idea with minimum environmental impact which took inspiration from something local. The LMC team’s idea was a radio station run by hydro power, called “Radio Lune” situated next to the river Lune in Lancaster.
Unfortunately the team was beaten in the final by students from the National Enterprise Academy, but they all thoroughly enjoyed their experience and felt that they had learned a great deal.
Team members Matt and Jordan said “We fully enjoyed the trip to City of Manchester Stadium; we found that we were treated well as guests. In addition to this we would like to thank our tutors at LMC for giving us this opportunity and all the staff at MCFC.”
LMC Tutor Kumar Jani who accompanied the students said “I am very proud of the students for coming up with an excellent Business Idea and the way they conducted themselves to such a daunting regional final where they had to do short pitch to three Business Dragons and fifty other people. We had a great day out and enjoyed every minute of our time spent in getting there and back and our stay at the magnificent venue.”
