LMC Volunteer Awards
Over 70 Awards
LMC’s annual Volunteer Awards took place on Thursday 27th May 2010, with more than 70 students receiving awards and certificates for their contribution to the local community and the College.
Students and staff were invited to celebrate the annual awards at the LMC’s Hexagon Theatre. These awards celebrate the contribution that students make to the local community and the college. Students were presented with bronze, silver and gold awards for volunteering 25, 50 or 100 hours respectively, and 28 students were nominated for ‘Outstanding Contribution Awards’ for going above and beyond the call of duty.
The ceremony included music from a student band, speeches from David Wood (LMC Principal) and Brian Jefferson (Chair of Governors) as well as award presentations from members of teaching staff and senior management. Many community organisations also attended to support the students receiving awards and certificates including HelpDirect, the Marsh Community centre, Signposts, Butterfly Conservation and the Cowran Estate. In addition to this a cheque for £500 of donations raised by the Challenge Group students at LMC, was presented to Heather Walkington of MacMillan Cancer Support, who took the opportunity to tell the audience about the great work the students had done to raise this sum of money.
The ceremony culminated in the twelve outstanding contribution winners being announced and invited to collect their prize after community organisations and College staff spoke about the reasons why their contribution has been so valuable over the course of the last academic year.
