Learning Support Policy
We are an equal opportunities College, which means that we are committed to a policy of equality of opportunity offering a high quality service no matter what your personal circumstances are. The Learning Support service is there for if you have a specific learning disability or difficulty or you require specialist assistance. Use the Learning Support service to get the most out of your time at the college.
The Learning Support service can also provide one-to-one tutorial sessions, outside of mainstream classes, for students who need additional support to reach their learning goals. Please see the Learning Support booklet which is available to download here (PDF 2MB) or you can pick up a copy from Student Services. Some students may prefer to learn in small, supportive groups at first. The College offers some classes which provide a more flexible, sheltered programme in which you can develop the confidence to go on to other College courses.

Physical access to the College for people with disabilities.
We have recently undertaken major works to further improve physical access to College sites. The main College site is almost entirely accessible to people who use wheelchairs. There are toilet facilities in most areas as well as talking lifts. Parking spaces for disabled drivers are located at both sides of the College and there are ramps with handrails. If you wish to attend a class which is in an inaccessible room, we will change the venue of the class, wherever possible.
Access to courses
You can have an assessment to help you decide - with the help of College staff - what learning support requirements you have, if any. This may be a piece of equipment, or having materials put into Braille, large print or onto audio tape or different formats. It may be help with getting around, or a sign language communicator.
Equipment
The College has a range of assistive technology, aids and equipment including: large monitors, CCTVs, laptop computers, PC’s with speech, Brailler, radio aids, portable loops, digital recorders, one-handed keyboards, spell checkers and ergonomic chairs. We will always try to provide you with the equipment you need.
The College has a Disability Statement which is also available on request in Braille, large print or audio tape from Reception and Student Services.
