I have found my learning
support extremely helpful. I
have managed to complete
work that I don’t think
would have got finished
without the help. I am very
grateful.

Level 1 student
I found that with Learning
Support I was able to do my

John Yates
John joined Lancaster and Morecambe College in 2001 through referral from the Acquired Brain Injury Service.
He first accessed Planning for Work, a well supported environment, in which he was able to build his confidence and gain CLAIT ICT qualifications.
John progressed to the Options Sampling course, again with a good level of support for his physical and cognitive needs, and achieved various qualifications attached to the programme. After two years on the mainstream Retail course John gained his NVQ Level 1 & Level 2 qualifications.
His next progression was to the BTEC IT Practitioners course, this helped to develop his skills using IT for a variety of reasons and having wider knowledge of systems, again John was supported with his organisational skills and access needs.
John benefited greatly from the support he received throughout his courses and has now gained a permanent part-time contract in the college’s Learning Centres.
John said “Without the support I received for access, note-taking and organisation I would have found the courses a lot harder to cope with. Thank you!”
