Sustainable Development Policy
Lancaster & Morecambe College won the Green Gown Award for sustainable practice in 2008 and has continued to develop its commitment within the 4C’s framework, placing the college at the forefront of sustainable practice within the Further Education Sector. This policy commits the college to continuing its journey to being a truly sustainable college which will provide its students with a learning experience that facilitates a lifetime of sustainable living.
The College recognises that, as a major employer, we accept our corporate social responsibility and will manage and govern with integrity; we will monitor the impact of the College on its environment and the communities we serve. Corporate responsibility will become a core aspect of the way we work and manage and, in time, will make an increasing contribution to the success of the College by enhancing our reputation for high standards of ethical and sustainable practice.
The College’s commitment to the 10:10 national initiative to cut its carbon emissions by 10% is an important part of our strategy and will continue into the foreseeable future. The emerging Healthy College’s initiative will also be incorporated into our strategic and operational planning.
With our growing experience and understanding of what works and what doesn’t, the college is ideally positioned to support other colleges who have a less well developed ethos and working practices. We should also ensure that our successes are widely promoted to existing and future students as well as local stakeholders.
Sustainability is everyone’s responsibility. Working together, we will implement this strategy and action plan to ensure we continue to develop our college in a responsible manner. Whilst we are all members of teams and, ultimately, of one team, the College, we have a responsibility as individuals in playing our part. View the full Sustainable Development Policy (PDF)
