Edward, who is currently studying Sport at LMC, has been selected at national trials to represent Great Britain at an upcoming tournament in 2018.

Edward has been playing Hockey for around 8 years, starting in primary school and continued to play right the way through into College. Edward has also played for Windermere Hockey Club Men’s 3rd, 2nd and 1st teams.

Edward said “Hockey is fantastic sport. It is really quick paced, so it is great for fitness. There is always a really good team atmosphere; everyone gets along, we’re just like a big family”.

When Edward came to LMC, he met Sports & Public Services tutor, Iain Burstow, a keen Hockey player, who coaches the Association of Colleges Women’s team. Edward attended the final trials with over 50 other students after a full day trial, and will now play against Scotland, Wales and England under 18s. Iain commented on Edward as a student and said “Edward has exceptional attendance, is a focussed student, works hard, and takes those attributes into his Hockey, which will make him a very successful player”.

Edward travelled to Cannock Hockey Club, with Iain and fellow LMC student and Hockey player Libby Thwaites, where trails were being held for the Association of Colleges Great British team. Edward told us “we went down for a full day of Hockey, which involved small games to begin, moving between teams so that everyone could play against everyone else. Then we moved onto some skill and set piece drills and finished off with a full length match. I found out that day that I had been picked for the team which I am thrilled with. There was approximately 50 people who turned up with 18 being selected for the squad, so I feel really proud that I made it into the team. It has been great having Iain as a tutor to support me in both my studies and in my Hockey career”.

Edward is currently enjoying studying Sport at LMC and said “I have always loved sports and the outdoors. I could never imagine working indoors for the rest of my life, so I wanted to do something where I could spend lots of time outside and doing things”. Once he has finished at College, Edward would like to move into Personal Training.
