This course will develop your knowledge of working in child care and prepare you for Level 2 study. You will develop a range of skills and techniques essential for working successfully with children and young people.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

This course will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to progress onto the Level 2 in Children’s Play, Learning and Development or the Level 2 in Health and Social Care.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

3 GCSEs at grade D-G/3-1 plus grade 2/F or higher in GCSE maths or English.

What does the course involve?

You will study:

• Safeguarding

• Communication

• Healthy Eating

• Children and Young Peoples Development

You will have the opportunity of completing work experience with children and young people, or in a care setting. You will also study a range of units aimed at improving employability and personal development skills.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths, English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into Further or Higher education, training or employment.

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including course work and assignments.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will get the nationally recognised Pearson BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Caring for Children Under 5.
