The course is for students who wish to work in the construction industry and progress onto level 2 or an apprenticeship.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and adult learners, the course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers. For 16-18 year old learners this will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience.

What progression and career opportunities will I gain?

The course can lead onto Bricklaying Level 2 or a Bricklaying Apprenticeship.

What are the entry requirements for the course?

3 GCSEs at grade D-G/3-1 PLUS grade 2/F or higher in maths or English. Enthusiasm for the subject/area, commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour) and enjoy working outside. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

You will study the following

• Principles of building construction, information and communication

• Contribute to setting out and building of masonry structures up to damp proof

• Carrying out block laying activities

• Health, safety and welfare in construction

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, exams/online tests and practical performances.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of the course you will receive City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying.
