This 34 week course had been designed to support students who want to gain basic knowledge of Childcare and who may not have entry requirements for mainstream courses.

Whilst on the course you will participate in practical activities such as creative crafts for children, healthy cooking for families and sport for children as well as undertaking theory sessions to help you gain your qualification.

Entry Requirements

No qualifications are required for this course but learners must have a commitment to study, enjoy working with other people and be willing to undertake a range of learning activities.

Course Activities

Topics that could be covered on this course include:

  • Child Protection

  • Keeping Children Safe and Well

  • Healthy Eating for Families

  • The Importance of Play

  • Parenting Skills

  • The Principles of Listening to Children

  • Child Development

  • The Foundations of Trust in Families

As part of this course students are also expected to look for, and undertake, a work placement within the Childcare sector.

All students aged 16 -19 are also required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study Maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths and English Functional Skills.

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including; projects, assignments and portfolio presentations.

Depending on time of year on entry, prior knowledge and qualifications you could achieve an AIM Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working in the Childcare Industries.

Progression Opportunities

This course could lead onto AIM Level 1 Diploma in the Skills for Working in the Childcare Industries, a Traineeship or entry into employment.
