This is a two year full time course geared towards a career in the fast growing sports industry. The course aims to introduce students to the theory and application of sports science in sporting environments.

Who is this Course for?

This course is designed for 16-18 year old and will be delivered as a study programme which includes math and English where applicable and work experience. The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills and employer encounters such as guest speakers.

• PE Teaching

• Personal Training

• University/HND at LMC

What are the entry requirements for the course?

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English OR a Level 2 related qualification PLUS grade C/4 or higher in BOTH Maths and English.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

What does the course involve?

The course is practical and is based on work related assignments. You will study the following:

Core units:

• Sport and Exercise Physiology

• Functional Anatomy

• Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology

• Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing

• Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science

• Coaching for Performance and Fitness

• Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance

Optional units of the following 8 will be studied:

• Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science

• Specialised Fitness Training

• Research Project in Sport and Exercise Science

• Physical Activity for Individual and Group based Exercise

• Sports Massage

• Sociocultural Issues in Sport and Exercise

• Technology in Sport and Exercise Science

• Sports Injury and Assessment

A key feature of this course is an appropriate 1 week course related work placement in both years of the course.

European visits for coaching and cultural experiences

All LMC students will receive tutorial support.

How will I be Assessed?

The course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including course work, assignments, practical observations, externally assessed examinations and externally assessed set tasks.

What qualification will I get?

On completion of this course you will receive a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, which is nationally recognised by employers, professional bodies, universities and colleges.
