Apprentices learn and gain professional competencies in their chosen career, whilst receiving a wage. They are suitable for well-motivated people who are focused and know which career they want to follow. All Apprenticeships offer high quality work-based training as an alternative to Full Time education.

As an Assistant Accountant apprentice you will provide support to internal and external customers and will work predominately either as an Assistant Accountant within practise or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. Part of your role will involve assisting in the day to day financial activities such as data entry to month end management accounts and/or year-end financial statements. In addition, you may yourself involved in regulatory financial requirements such as the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations.

Course Overview

In addition to your work based training we offer a Skills Development Academy for gaining further knowledge and confidence. This gives you the opportunity to meet other apprentices, socialise on campus and gain additional industry insight from guest speakers. Classroom study will include the following units: Financial Accounting – preparing financial statements, Management Accounting techniques, Tax processes for Business and Business awareness. These are taught sessions delivered on campus one day a week.

The End Point Assessment (EPA) is the final stage of your Apprenticeship. You’ll only be put forward to take this when your employer and tutor feel you are ready.

The EPA has two elements:

  • An online assessment, where you’ll tackle a series of business related tasks through simulation in line with typical role activities

  • The submission of a portfolio of evidence gathered from the workplace. You must then reflect on the portfolio through a professional discussion.

If you are successful in your EPA you will receive your AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting qualification.
