A Digital Applications Technician is someone who helps their organisation’s internal users to maximise the use of digital technologies and adapt to changes in technology to meet organisation objectives and maximise productivity. They ensure effective use of digital office technologies, productivity software, digital communications and digital information systems.

This course aims to provide the apprentice with the knowledge and skills to be a Digital Support Technician, whilst the workplace /employer will provide the hands-on experience.

Entry Requirements

To study this Apprenticeship you must:

  • Show enthusiasm for the subject area

  • Enjoy working with other people

  • Show a commitment to study

  • Evidence of good skills in practical subjects

  • Good interpersonal skills

You must also have 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including Maths and English OR a related Level 2 qualification PLUS grade C/4 or higher in BOTH Maths and English.

Course Activities

On this Apprenticeship the apprentice will carry out regular learning and continuous assessment which covers the full range of knowledge, skills and behaviours required within the digital environment. This is managed by the employer and the advisor. The learning will be built around competencies and skills as set out in the standard.

Nearing the end of your Apprenticeship you will go through End Point Assessment (EPA) as a means of confirming you are able to complete the duties of a Digital Support Technician at a Level 3 Standard.

This Apprenticeship has an EPA which is based on two distinct assessment methods:

  1. The Knowledge Test – this is comprised of two units (one on core knowledge and one on specialist knowledge). Each Test is based on multiple-choice questions –assessing underpinning knowledge and understanding.

  2. The Case Study Presentation and Interview – this is comprised of an apprentice presentation of a real-life Case Study that they have undertaken in the workplace and a structured interview with an independent assessor. The interview will assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours demonstrated in the Case Study Presentation as well as drawing on those demonstrated in their portfolio.

In addition to your work based training, we offer a Skills Development Academy to give apprentices the opportunity to gain further knowledge and confidence. This gives you the opportunity to meet other apprentices, socialise on campus and gain additional industry insight from guest speakers.

Progression Opportunities

This Apprenticeship is recognised for entry on to the Register of IT Technicians and those completing their Apprenticeships are eligible to apply for registration. Completion of this Apprenticeship would also allow access to Associate membership of BCS (Chartered Institute of IT).
