This course teaches both theoretical and practical aspects of electrical installation and is suitable for school leavers and adults wishing to become involved in the electrical industry and associated disciplines.

Electricians have exciting opportunities of work varying from domestic settings to industrial environments and so you are required to actively solve problems on this course; ideal for someone who wants to pursue a hands-on career.

This course is facilitated in partnership with JTL.

Course Overview

You will study the following:

  • Cables and accessories.

  • The National Grid.

  • Electrical systems design.

  • Trunking, tray and conduit systems.

  • Running a business.

  • Cable types.

  • Environmental settings.

  • The construction industry.

  • Career awareness.

  • Installing wiring systems & enclosures.

  • Fault diagnosis and rectification.

  • Health and safety.

  • Inspection, testing & commissioning.

  • Sustainability in domestic dwellings.

  • Electrical science and technology.

  • Circuit types

All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English & Maths.

LMC has guest speakers along with joint events for all students. There is also an excellent opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) which gives learners opportunities for bonding and stepping outside of their comfort zones.

Progression Routes

Upon completion you can progress to Higher Education, employment, self-employment, and may work nationally or even internationally. Progression in the workplace can lead to management roles and after experience, your career may lead to teaching and training others.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A-C/4-9, specifically in English, Maths & Science.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & Maths qualifications or GCSE English & Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.

If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or Maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & Maths Functional Skills.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
