This course offers a 50/50 split between the theoretical and practical application of knowledge required to enter the engineering industry. Covering both electrical and mechanical aspects of the sector, the Engineering Level 3 course provides learners with a grounded introduction to maintenance procedures, health and safety, fault finding and repair techniques used in today's industry led fields.

This course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in mechanical, electrical, electronic, production, smart or medical materials engineering, and includes interpreting and using information with computer aided design (CAD).

Course Overview

You will study the following:

  • Engineering materials

  • Electronic, control and instrumentation

  • Mechanical structures and dynamics

  • Manufacturing methods in engineering

  • Engineering design (including CAD/CAM)

  • Engineering mathematics and stats

All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English & Maths.

LMC has guest speakers along with joint events for all students. There is also an excellent opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) which gives learners opportunities for bonding and stepping outside of their comfort zones.

Progression Routes

Many of our students choose to progress onto the Gas Engineer or Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship programmes.

Upon completion you can progress to Higher Education, employment, self-employment, and may work nationally or even internationally. Progression in the workplace can lead to management roles and after experience, your career may lead to teaching and training others.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including English & Maths, OR a Level 2 related qualification PLUS grade C/4+ in English or Maths.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & Maths qualifications or GCSE English & Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.

If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or Maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & Maths Functional Skills.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
