The Level 3 Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A levels, is designed to develop the breadth of understanding of students who can demonstrate a good set of skills and interest in the music and sound industries. You could be interested in soundtrack, music for games, performance or in the technical production and recording skills needed across the industry. You will explore recording, performing, marketing and lots of other associated skills such as integrating video and moving image whilst identifying your future progression route to higher education or industry.
Previous trips have seen music students visit Parr Street Studios (Liverpool), Hansa Studios (Berlin) and perform in Liverpool, Berlin, Cyprus, Portugal as well as regular termly gigs in local venues.
This qualification will be assessed through a variety of formative and summative methods. Formative assessment is designed to provide a foundation for students in the fundamentals of music performance and production as well as developing a broader contextual understanding of the industry. Summative assessment is designed to enable students to deliver a collaborative project at the end of the Diploma and to plan, prepare and deliver an extended music project at the end of the Extended Diploma.
Assignments are designed through consultation with industry professionals, employers and previous students to ensure their industry relevance.
A range of guest lecturers and industry based panel discussions have been hosted by the Music team at LMC with panellists from SiCo, Sony, Rock People Management and Red Room Events. In addition, learners will also have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals from local companies such as More Music and Promenade Music.
Once learners have completed this course, learners who have passed will have the option to apply for other courses at College such as an Apprenticeship or Part Time creative course. Previous students have gone on to study song writing, music production, sound engineering and music performance at various universities, and achieved Masters degrees from Goldsmiths and Edinburgh University.
LMC Music alumni work have gone on to work as freelance promoters, live sound engineers, freelance producers, sound designers for film and composers for video games. Some have even gone on to work for acclaimed recording studios and tour Europe as performers.

To study this course learners will need:
A minimum grade 4/C or Functional Skills equivalent in English and Maths
Enthusiasm for the subject/area
Evidence of good skills in practical subjects
To enjoy working with people
To show a commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)
To be able to work independently
A proven interest in music performance and/or music production
Good interpersonal skills
