This course is suitable school leavers and adults who wish to work in the construction industry and progress onto an Apprenticeship or further study on a Level 3 related course.

Bricklaying Level 2 is continuously assessed using a range of methods including assignments, practical performance, examination, portfolio presentation and course work, leading to an outcome of an NOCN Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying.

Course Overview

During the course you will be tested on your theory knowledge as well as completing a practical test to prove your skills.

You will study the following:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction (online test)

  • Principles of building construction, information and communication (online test)

  • Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding

  • Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers

  • Interpreting working drawing to set out masonry structures

  • Construct cavity walling forming masonry structure

All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English & Maths.

Progression Routes

Upon course completion many of our students choose to progress onto a Level 3 course, while some students choose to progress straight into full time work or the Level 2 Bricklaying Apprenticeship.

There are a variety of exciting roles within the Bricklaying industry, such as:

  • Construction Site Supervisor

  • Estimating

  • Stone Mason

  • Business Owner

  • Heritage Work

Entry Requirements

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & Maths qualifications or GCSE English & Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.

If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or Maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & Maths Functional Skills.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
