This Apprenticeship will provide you with the all the skills you require to start a career within the construction industry. Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians plan, select, install, service, commission and maintain all aspects of plumbing and heating systems. You will be working inside or outside a property and be the first and last trade on site. You will develop your customer service skills and being tidy and respectful are important qualities as they can often find themselves working in customers’ homes as well as on building sites.
You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week and be prepared to attend LMC through day and block release for your essential off the job training.
While at LMC you will be taught by time served, qualified tutors who have over 30 years industry experience and still work in industry, to ensure you receive the best training. Our workshops are up to date allowing you to become confident and proficient while developing your skills.
You will be involved in developing your skills in the installation of plumbing and heating systems including accurate measuring, marking, cutting, bending and jointing metallic and non-metallic pipework. Appliances and equipment can include gas, oil and solid fuel boilers as well as pumps, heat emitters, bathroom furniture or controls as part of a cold water, hot water, and central heating or above ground drainage and rainwater. You will also be in the forefront of installing new and exciting environmental technologies like heat pumps, solar thermal systems, biomass boilers and water recycling systems. You will aim to develop sustainable working methods in an economic manner to minimise waste

During you time at LMC you will have the opportunity to apply to work abroad for three weeks, where you will be able to develop new ways of working, develop new relationships and the opportunity of work after your apprenticeship. We have had apprentices working in Aalborg, Denmark and Iceland.
You will have the opportunity to complete in World Skills and HIP competitions to demonstrate your skills.
Assessment Methods of the Apprenticeship
This course is delivered over a 45-month period, divided into four phases of equal length. At the end of phase 1,2,3 you will complete an ‘end of phase’ assessment and multiple-choice question assessment.
Phase 4 will focus on your chosen pathway, over a 9-month period: Gas, Oil, Solid fuel/biomass, Environmental.

Progression may be possible in the form of:
Level 4/5 HNC/D in Building Services Engineering (mechanical)
Level 5 Foundation degree in Building Services Engineering
The qualification will entitle the learner to apply for Engineering Technician (EngTech) status with the Chartered institute for Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE)
Entry requirements will be determined by individual employers. Typically, apprentices will have English & Mathematics at Level 2 on entry, and all will have achieved that level prior to taking their end-point assessment.
Students who have already completed the current BPEC Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Domestic Plumbing and Heating may be able to enter this Level 3 qualification at Phase 3 provided they meet and undertake the requirements detailed in the BPEC RPL document.
It is important to be able to work independently or as part of a team and be prepared to work in a safe, efficient, and respectful manner.
