The Creative Digital Media Level 3 Extended Diploma is a two year course equivalent to 3 A-Levels. Students are expected to attend college for four days a week with a further day dedicated to home study tasks.

The course has a strong emphasis on giving students a broad range of skills across a number of disciplines in digital media, games development, sound design and film & television. Each brief on the Extended Diploma gives students a broad introduction, with opportunity to develop skills in specific technical areas.

On completion of the course students will be awarded a Creative Media Production UAL Extended Diploma Level 3.

Course Overview

The first year (which equates to the Diploma in Creative Digital Media) is made up of 8 units and is designed to introduce students to a broad range of digital media disciplines, allowing them to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to explore their aptitude and ambition within the subject area. The second year of the course is made up of a further five units and encourages students to hone their skills to specialise in film & sound or games design.

The course initially concentrates on an introduction to media processes, including skills developing workshops in: digital film editing, interactive media and 3D character rigging.

As the course progresses students will continue to develop skills in research, communication, motion graphics, interactive media, games design and film & editing techniques. In the final term students will work on their final major project towards a media product typically in the form of film, game or animation.

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, assignments, coursework, practical performance and portfolio presentation.

This course undertakes many trips including university visits, filming workshops and our annual trip to London where we aim to visit Warner Bros. Studios Tour London, the West End and various other sightseeing attractions.

We work with external clients on the course as we think it is important for students to work in a real-world environment gaining experience working with real clients. In previous years we have worked with: Lancashire Police, Morecambe Bay Foodbank, Light Up Lancaster, Digital Advantage, The Eden Project and We Are With You.

Industry Links

We are fortunate to have a number of very strong links to the local community. We have worked with University of Central Lancashire, Lancaster Police, Morecambe Bay Food Bank and Eden North.
