The iMedia Level 2 Diploma (UAL) is a one-year course equivalent to 3 GCSE’s. Students are expected to attend College for three sessions in the week to work towards their qualification.

The course is made up of 8 units and is designed to introduce students to a broad range of digital media disciplines, allowing them to develop practical skills and contextual knowledge within structured project briefs.

The briefs at this level are designed to challenge the learners’ abilities across the full media scope including: graphic design, photography, animation, music, film and video production, games design and professional editing skills. The first 4 projects allow the learners to develop skills in all of these practical areas before beginning their final personal project. The personal project is a student led final brief which will determine their overall final grade.

On completion of this course you will receive a Level 2 UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology.

Course Overview

Whilst the course has many practical aspects, it is demanding in terms of written work where students are expected to keep an up to date portfolio. The portfolio will demonstrate the learners’ ongoing journey with research, practical skills, experimentation, development and production skills alongside detailed written annotations.

Students will be expected to develop their understanding of the media industry by taking part in group projects, presenting their work, learning new technical skills and seeing a project through from initial planning to completion at industry-standard.

We work with external clients on the course as we think it is important for students to work in a real-world environment gaining experience working with real clients. We have previously worked with The Lancashire Dementia Hub, Love Arts, Digital Advantage and The Eden Project North.

Throughout this course we generally undertake many trips including visits to: Bradford Media Museum, Liverpool World Museum, Manchester UCAS fair and Bury Games Arcade. These trips are tailored to help students meet the needs of their project briefs.

Industry Links

We are fortunate to have a number of very strong links to the industry and local media firms. We have worked with University of Central Lancashire, Lancaster Police, Morecambe Bay Food Bank and Eden North.

The College also has links with Digital Advantage, an industry-based media company which works with real employers from the sector, which allows our students to take part in an industry lead programme to accelerate their technical, creative and business skills.

Past students have also had sessions with industry specialists ranging from creative writing workshops with Jacqueline Wilson to design lectures with games design specialists.
