What do I need to join?
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including maths or English OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in maths or English.
Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
The course covers knowledge required for a career in the in the engineering / power industries. There is strong element of mathematics and science including extended certificates in engineering and applied science & maths.
This course is aimed at preparing students to enter the world of engineering by giving them grounding in working safely and effectively plus interpreting and using engineering information together with an introduction to computer aided design (CAD).
Who is this course for?
The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in engineering maintenance operation in major installations / power plants.

Engineering at LMC
The Engineering department at Lancaster & Morecambe College has a successful training programme for apprentices and advanced apprentices for Fabrication & Welding. Full time courses are offered in Fabrication & Welding, Maintenance Engineering and Electrical Installations. LMC is increasing its training provision for students who are looking to a future in the engineering sector. Companies are increasing their intake of engineering apprentices, with the aim of developing and retaining their skills base.

LMC has over 60 Apprentices working in the engineering industry.
Where does it lead?
Past students have gone on to higher courses in Engineering and the Built Environment. Last year’s students secured employment with EDF, GA Engineering, Bowker IT and Rogerson. Students progress to working as engineers in a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, utilities, marine construction, steel fabrication, laundry clothing processing, fuel storage/distribution, sheet metal fabrication and electrical engineering.
