An Apprenticeship is a perfect choice if you want to continue your studies and develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a specific industry, while also earning a salary in full-time employment; kickstarting your long-term career path.

This Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills required to further your career in the welding industry. You will learn advanced health and safety as well as the principles required to work in the construction and engineering environment.

You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week and you will attend College once a week for your off the job training.

While at LMC you will be taught by industry trained tutors who have over 30 years of experience within the welding industry. You will be taught in our up-to-date workshops allowing you to become confident and proficient, whilst developing your skills.

Course Overview

At the start of your Apprenticeship you will be assigned your own Work Place Co-Ordinator who will be there for you throughout your Apprenticeship to answer any questions you may have. They will also visit you onsite along with your College tutor to make sure your Apprenticeship journey is a comfortable one.

During your sessions at College you will undertake welding tests that will be assessed and graded to monitor your progress. Typical welding tests carried out would include butt, fillet, lap and corner joints in the vertical and overhead positions. These tests will be used as practice for you as you work towards your End Point Assessment (EPA).

Your End Point Assessment will be carried out in 3 sections; multiple-choice exams on all the welding processes, a professional interview to assess your knowledge of what is required of you in the industry and practical weld tests that will undergo both destructive and non-destructive testing to international standards.

At College you will be assessed by written assignments, practical skills tests, observations and a portfolio of all training carried out both in College and at your workplace. There will also be regular assessor visits to the workplace to observe your competency in completing certain tasks. You will cover the theoretical aspects of welding practices both in the classroom and occasional home study.
