Our department offers an introduction to the horticulture industry and the types of careers available. The courses we provide are very practical based, in keeping with national industry requirements and will provide you with the knowledge required to set up your own gardening business or work within a nursery or garden centre. We cater for school leavers and mature learners alike. This is a new and exciting Apprenticeship development for Lancaster & Morecambe College.
“I chose this course for business purposes. I am hoping in the future I can build my own business. LMC provided everything I needed. I loved everything about my course including the people I work with and my tutor. It was the best choice I ever made joining this course. I would advise it to anyone who was interested. I’m very grateful for the course as now I have gained a job at Lancaster City Council.”
Kurtis Evans, Horticulture Level 2
Exciting career opportunities include working as a horticultural scientist, nursery manager, environmental scientist, garden historian, landscape ecologist, nature conservation officer, park ranger, arboriculturalist or landscape designer. The Royal Horticultural Society has predicted that over 11,000 horticultural jobs will be created over the next few years in the UK. Previous students have gone onto employment with Lancaster City Council as nursery assistants and parks and gardens assistants, as grounds staff at the Merewood Hotel, Windermere and at White Lund Nursery, or started their own business.
