Case Study: Charlotte Cummings - Bay Radio
When you are in business you simply must supply fantastic customer service and for us excellent Radio programming too, and we needed a little help around the place to do administration tasks and some behind the scenes studio help to keep things polished. We tried to imagine what sort of person we could bring in to fill this role and after some discussion decided to take a chance on an apprentice. We have worked closely with the LEPB so we had heard all about Apprenticeships and we contacted LMC Business.
Alison came to see us to find out what our needs were and she suggested that she send us an Apprentice that would study Business Administration. Charlotte Cummings came along to be interviewed and she even worked for us for a few days to make sure that we all felt that she was a good fit with our business and that she would like to work with us too! This was all accomplished with help and support from Lancaster & Morecambe College within a couple of weeks of our original enquiry.
Charlotte has become an essential part of the team and has such a varied amount of tasks on her job description that it’s hard to remember how we coped without her. Charlotte has helped me to organise an outside broadcast at The Globe Arena for a Your Future Your Choice careers event. She has adopted the new video camera as her own and shot scenes we intend to upload to You Tube so listeners can see what we are up to. She has volunteered to work at upcoming outside events in order to keep the back stage area organised. She has also photocopied a few thousand documents, replied to listener enquiries about scheduling and done a little editing in the studio. It’s little wonder that we made her employee of the month!
We have been delighted that we decided to take a chance on an apprentice, we openly admit we were uncertain that this was going to work for our business but now realise that with the help and support of LMC Business to find us the right candidate and our commitment to give Charlotte the same level of support you would give any new employee things couldn’t have gone better.
What Our Clients Say About Us...
MELISSA BURTON, GOODY GOOD STUFF
"When looking to employ someone I am more likely to pick someone with a vocational qualification than I am to take someone with a university qualification. I love the freshness that comes with taking on an apprentice and the fact that they have not been corrupted by corporate UK or academia.I would recommend to anyone working in a business that they should take an LMC apprentice on. My first apprentice Georgina has been invaluable to me. Her creativity and free thinking have been instrumental in the setup of many of our new campaigns."
SAM BAJGAR, HR MANAGER FROM SAINSBURY’S:
LMC Business worked with JobcentrePlus to develop and deliver a bespoke programme to candidates interested in applying for jobs in the Sainsbury’s store in Morecambe
"The scheme has been a great success attracting some strong candidates. It was a great benefit that we were able to give the applicants hands on experience of working in retail before the interview. We look forward to working the College and JobCentrePlus in the future to support our recruitment.”
SAVE AND CLAIM
At Save and Claim we are committed to CPD and LMC Business have helped us with this. The professional and efficient way that our needs were dealt with impressed us immensely. The support and flexibility they offer is ideal for us. The members of our Staff who completed NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Customer Service and NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business and Administration were motivated by the tutors and found the whole experience enjoyable, encouraging some of them to progress onto the next level. Our apprentices were all offered full-time positions and are climbing the career ladder within the Company.
We would not hesitate in recommending LMC Business and look forward to all our future dealings with them.
