Lancaster and Morecambe College are pleased to announce we will be working in partnership with Lancaster District Chamber of Commerce, Morecambe BID and Lancaster Business Improvement District to act as an intermediary organisation to support the national Kickstart Scheme. We will support the on-going development of our local economy through the generation of high-quality placement opportunities for young people.
The Kickstart Scheme has been established to create 6-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. The job placements should support participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the Kickstart scheme. The job placements created with Kickstart funding must be new jobs, and they must not replace existing or planned vacancies or cause existing employees or contractors to lose or reduce their employment.
Each employer will receive an initial set-up grant of £1,500 once the Kickstart participant has joined the company and been registered on the PAYE system. Employers will be responsible for paying the monthly salary direct to the participant, based upon the national minimum wage for their age and for at least 25 hours per week. Employers will then receive grants equivalent to this and any associated NI contributions, monthly in arrears.
