The Environmental Awareness Level 1 course is aimed at adults looking to gain further knowledge and awareness of the environment, and our impact on it.

On successful completion of the course, you will achieve 2 qualifications;
• Preventing Plastic Pollution
• Environmental Sustainability

The course looks at the concepts of sustainability, understanding the environmental impact, what makes a sustainable community including disposing of plastics, and how plastic pollutions can be reduced.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Successful applicants will:

  • have enthusiasm for the subject and industry

  • enjoy working with people

  • commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)

  • be able to work independently

  • proven interest in the environment

  • good interpersonal skills

Course Activities

This programme will cover 2 qualifications, these are:

  • Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability

  • Level 1 Award in Preventing Plastic Pollution

Environmental Sustainability will cover the following topics:

  • Basic concepts in sustainability

  • Understanding environmental impacts

  • Understand what makes a sustainable community

Preventing Plastic Pollution will cover the following topics:

  • Understand different types of plastics and their uses

  • Understand how to dispose of plastics

  • Understand how plastic affect the marine environment

  • Understand how plastic pollution can be reduced

Both qualifications are assessed via online multiple-choice tests.

There will be a small amount of home study that may include research and revision.

Progression Opportunities

Upon completion of this course students will also have the opportunity to move into entry level jobs within the Environmental industry, roles may include:

  • Environmental Health

  • Forestry Worker

  • Ecologist

  • Horticultural Worker

  • Countryside Officer
