Job Description

Part-time hourly paid Distance Learning Assessors in – 

  • Business Admin; Customer Service; Team Leading
  • Health & Childcare
  • Cleaning Knowledge & Skills
  • Lean management and IT users

Lancaster & Morecambe College is looking for occupationally competent and experienced assessors. You will have a minimum NVQ Level 3 Assessor Award and willingness to continually update your knowledge and skills.
You will support the delivery and growth of a high quality, efficient, user friendly Distance Learning Programme, providing feedback to learners to support their individual development and progress through the qualification.
The work will be undertaken remotely with occasional attendance at college for essential team meetings.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To support the delivery and growth of a high quality, efficient, user-friendly Distance Learning Programme
  • To provide high quality feedback to learners to support their individual development and progress through the qualification

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Manage a caseload of distance learners in relevant subject areas, ensuring timely and consistent progress throughout the programmes, resulting in timely completions and achievement rates.

  2.  Undertake accurate and timely marking of completed modules in line with the programme’s published guidance and marking schedule.

  3. Maintain regular contact with learners online to support continuing motivation, engagement and skills development.

  4. Keep accurate records of all relevant information as required on agreed College systems and report any issues or concerns 

  5. Work to support the Distance Learning Coordinator and Administrator in the growth and development of the College’s Distance Learning Programme, and in the refinement and efficiency of related recording and administrative processes.

  6. Attend team and standardisation meetings etc. online or occasionally in College as required 

  7. Undertake industrial updating and professional development to keep abreast of Distance Learning curriculum developments.

  8. Dependent on occupational competence and appropriate qualifications, be prepared, on request, to undertake Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) work on course marked by colleagues (an enhanced hourly rate is paid for this more specialist work).

  9. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Recent, relevant occupational competence and industrial experience in relevant areas

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of teaching / exam marking or academic marking to a pre-set marking scheme 

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form, Interview and assessment*

  • NVQ 3/4 or equivalent in appropriate technical/ vocational/professional qualification, and willingness to continually update knowledge & skills

  •  Level 3 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent (Assessor Award qualification)

  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent)*

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates

  • Level 4 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent (IQA qualification)
