Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a number of exciting projects supported by the Government’s Strategic Development Fund to accelerate the green agenda and promote low-carbon services and practices.

Lancashire Colleges will be working in partnership with employers to identify skills shortages and ways to promote sustainability and net-zero practices in a number of sectors. The projects will develop state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality learning materials to promote sustainability.
Lancaster & Morecambe College are looking for a number of self-motivated individuals to implement projects which are funded until March 31st, 2022. 

Post subject to final confirmation of project funding.

Working as part of the Strategic Development Fund Project team, your role as IT Support Technician involves assisting staff with IT related queries, running IT security systems and supporting development in the use of new technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
You will be educated to NVQ Level 3 in Computer IT Support and have advanced IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office 365 and other relevant bespoke software packages. 
Excellent customer service, an enthusiasm for problem-solving and an eye for detail are skills essential to the role. You will have the ability to communicate confidentially using excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To provide an effective IT support to staff and students
  • To support developments in the use of new technologies to enhance teaching and learning 

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

The post holder will need to have an excellent approach to customer service to fulfil the responsibilities of the post.  The post will be based at the College Main site and will involve a range of day-to-day support challenges in a fast-paced environment.

  1. Champion new technologies for education delivery and assist and advise curriculum staff in their use. Work closely with Programme Area Managers in relevant educational technology development.

  2. Assist the ICT manager in the preparation of professional development material and delivery, in regards to rolling out new technologies.

  3. Undertake a continual programme of research and development of Microsoft 365 applications and their use in an education environment and assist with workshops and training session delivery in the use of these applications.

  4. Follow all procedures in response to fault reporting on the computer helpdesk and work with Computer Services staff in the timely resolution of technical faults. 

  5. Assist in the production of system documentation and check system logs.

  6. Assist with IT security systems.

  7. Work with the Computer Services team to ensure an effective departmental service is provided at all times, including assisting with the provision of print room services.

  8. Manage diary and telephone calls as necessary and assist staff and students with IT-related queries

  9. Carry out daily System Administration tasks

  10. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required


Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of using IT systems in an Education environment


Essential - Measured by application form

  • NVQ Level 3 in Computer IT Support
  • GCSE Maths & English grades 4-9 (or equivalent Level 2) 

Desirable - Measured by application form

  • Willingness and capability to undertake qualification or in-house training in teaching delivery (to enhance ability to support teaching and learning)

  • Strong all-round computer skills
  • More advanced IT skills including use of Microsoft Office 365 and other relevant bespoke software packages
