Job Description

Lecturer in Film, TV and Digital Media (0.5 Fractional Post)        
18.5 hours per week
Salary up to £32,563 per annum, pro rata, depending on qualifications and experience

Do you have teaching experience and a practical knowledge of Film, TV or Digital Media?

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking an experienced lecturer to provide high quality teaching and learning in our Visual and Creative Studies department. You will be responsible for teaching Level 2 and 3 students within an agreed curriculum framework, developing learning resources and materials that consider individual learner needs and modern delivery approaches. 

You should hold a degree or vocational qualification in the appropriate subject area, as well as a minimum Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training, or be willing to achieve this. You should be motivated and committed to excellent student achievement, with an understanding of the needs of students with learning difficulties or disabilities. A knowledge of digital photography is desirable.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To provide high quality teaching and learning, specifically contributing to the programme area’s expertise in Film, TV and Digital Media, including teaching at level 2 and 3.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. A teaching commitment in line with College policy as agreed annually with the Programme Area Manager and Director of Curriculum.  You will plan and deliver teaching/learning programme using a flexible range of strategies and learning styles and taking responsibility for the quality of own teaching and related curriculum development.

  2. Develop learning resources/materials to meet individual learner needs, devise appropriate assignments and learning programmes and maintain records that support the learning experience. To maintain high quality records and provide timely information. 

  3. Work within an agreed curriculum framework and to agreed targets/objectives, and contribute to Faculty curriculum development activities.

  4. Assess student competence in College or in the workplace, including Internal Verification.  Assist with the external moderation process.

  5. Undertake administrative tasks and complete returns as required by the Head of Faculty.

  6. Act as a course manager and/or course tutor as appropriate.

  7. Assist with the recruitment, selection and enrolment of students. Take an active part in marketing activities to support recruitment. 

  8. Maintain high levels of student retention and achievement.

  9. Provide accurate and timely data and information including registers, withdrawals and transfers, and progress reports. 

  10. Manage the behaviour of students.

  11. Accompany and supervise students on educational and training visits if required.

  12. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post, including exam invigilation, as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Experience of delivering Film and TV and Digital Media programmes in Further or Higher Education, with a focus on practical skills underpinned by good theoretical knowledge
  • Recent relevant practical experience 

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Skills in Digital Photography
  • Experience of OFSTED inspections and Quality Assurance processes & procedures
  • Experience of providing Careers IAG

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form and interview and assessment* 

  • Degree or vocational qualifications in appropriate subject area
  • Minimum Level 3 Certificate in Education & Training (or to gain within an agreed timeframe)
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*

*You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates

  • Level 2 or Full First Aid at Work qualification
  • MIDAS licence

  • Ability to work within a team and as a course manager
