Job Description

Lecturer in Leadership and Management

Do you have experience in delivering leadership and management training and/or broad experience in business leadership with the skills and enthusiasm to pass on your knowledge? 

Do you have the interpersonal skills needed to network and build employer relations within the sector? 

Lancaster & Morecambe College is seeking an experienced trainer to join the Employer Engagement team. You will plan and deliver an engaging curriculum to groups of learners looking to develop their leadership and management skills. You will also work closely with local employers, building positive relationships that meet and exceed their requirements.

Ideally, you will hold a minimum Level 3 Award in Education and Training, as well as a degree or vocational qualification in an appropriate subject area.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • To provide high quality teaching and learning, specifically contributing to the programme area’s expertise in leadership and management.
  • To support students in reaching their academic and personal goals leading to their positive progression.  

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning using a flexible range of engaging strategies to promote learning, taking responsibility for the continual development of own teaching and related curriculum.

  2. Develop learning resources/materials to meet individual learner needs, promote independent learning skills, devise appropriate assignments, tutorials and learning programmes and maintain records to support the learning experience.

  3. Work within an agreed curriculum framework and to agreed targets/objectives and contribute to curriculum development activities.

  4. Prepare and support learners for all types of assessment. Assess student competence in College or in the workplace, including Internal Verification.

  5. Support in working with the Employer Engagement team, in building employer relations within the sector and market the College’s training provision, specifically in leadership and management related training, and more broadly as opportunity allows.  Communicate regularly and effectively with the team to ensure a quality and joined up service for employers.

  6. Undertake Health and Safety risk assessments, ensuring that placements are suitable and meet the required standards in line with contractual requirements.  Monitor and review Health and Safety at regular intervals on company premises. 

  7. Act as a course manager and/or course tutor as appropriate, supporting the successful implementation of study programmes and work experience placements.

  8. Assist with recruitment, selection and enrolment, providing high quality information, advice and guidance to students.

  9. Meet regularly with the Leadership and Management delivery team, raising any learning issues and identifying when a learner is ready for End Point Assessment.  Work with delivery team to manage the End Point Assessment process for your learner.

  10. Continually monitor the 20% off the job training to ensure it is of high quality, contributing effectively to relevant skills and knowledge development and appropriate to the programme.  

  11. Create positive working relationships on behalf of the College with employers to meet and exceed their requirements

  12. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Awareness / experience of delivering high quality teaching and learning 
  • Relevant teacher or trainer experience 
  • Good working knowledge and experience of accredited leadership and management training (e.g. CMI)
  • Recent experience in a business management or leadership position

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of compiling submission documents for awarding bodies
  • Giving initial Advice & Guidance

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • Degree or vocational qualifications in appropriate subject area
  • Minimum level 3 Award in Education & Training (or alternative approved teacher training qualification) or willing to gain within specified timescale
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)* 

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates

  • Level 3 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent (or within specified timescale)
  • Level 4 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent

  • Organised and good attention to detail, with ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
  • Awareness of modern approaches to the delivery of all programmes
  • The ability for sustained hard work
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to teach and assess a wide range of units and modules associated with the courses offered
  • Ability to network and make links within the community, including employers

  •  Understanding of Functional Skills
  • Understanding of the requirement of apprenticeship standards
