Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a number of exciting projects supported by the Government’s Strategic Development Fund to accelerate the green agenda and promote low-carbon services and practices.

Lancashire Colleges will be working in partnership with employers to identify skills shortages and ways to promote sustainability and net-zero practices in a number of sectors. The projects will develop state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality learning materials to promote sustainability.
Lancaster & Morecambe College are looking for a number of self-motivated individuals to implement projects which are funded until March 31st, 2022. Some knowledge of, and a commitment to, the sustainability agenda is an advantage.

Post subject to final confirmation of project funding.

Working as part of the Strategic Development Fund Project team, you will coordinate school engagement activity with partner schools and careers services, deliver green awareness training in schools and organise local community events to increase the profile of low carbon and sustainable practices.

Experience of planning and delivering events, development of presentations and speaking to groups of young people are essential. 
You will be educated to NVQ Level 3 (or have equivalent skills and experience) and have the ability to provide detailed information in a clear, impartial manner whilst maintaining confidentiality.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To coordinate all school engagement activity with partner schools and careers services.
  • To coordinate staff response to local community events and organisations, increasing the profile of low carbon and sustainable practices. 
  • Deliver green awareness training in schools.  

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Lead in planning, organisation, implementation and attendance at school engagement activities and events, delivering innovative sessions, to support low carbon agenda.  

  2. Plan, organise and deliver, in conjunction with other LMC staff, LMC’s contribution to community events to increase LMC’s profile and support the local community.

  3. Actively promote the Green Agenda with teaching colleagues supporting and embedding opportunities.

  4. Develop, organise and attend activities to publicise and promote the low carbon agenda, including ‘taster days’ Open Days, advisory days, official openings, exhibitions and school liaison events, including the transport and removal of associated equipment. Engage with other team members and curriculum staff for delivery.

  5. Ensure that the College has a strong, social media presence on multiple platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube and other appropriate media including LMC website and press.  Share information and marketing material across the Lancashire-based project teams.

  6. Report in a timely fashion to the Project Lead and SMT on School Engagement activities and statistics, working closely with College Information Services to develop reports as required.

  7. Undertake market research with school pupils/college students and careers staff to inform future Green Activities. Use effective data tracking and monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of activities.

  8. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required


Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Development of presentations & delivery/speaking to groups of young people
  • Work with young people individually/ in groups
  • Accurate recording of information and production of reports
  • Marketing or communications experience in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of working in a busy environment with pressurised workloads 
  • Planning and delivering events

  • Experience of working to quality standards
  • Information, Advice and Guidance
  • Experience of working with press and PR
  • Experience of updating web-based content
  • Good understanding of current environmental issues and ability to explain these clearly and factually

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent Level 2)

  • Marketing, Communication or IAG qualification
  • Level 4 qualification
