Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a number of exciting projects supported by the Government’s Strategic Development Fund to accelerate the green agenda and promote low-carbon services and practices.

Lancashire Colleges will be working in partnership with employers to identify skills shortages and ways to promote sustainability and net-zero practices in a number of sectors. The projects will develop state-of-the-art facilities and high-quality learning materials to promote sustainability.
Lancaster & Morecambe College are looking for a number of self-motivated individuals to implement projects which are funded until March 31st, 2022. For this post, a commitment to sustainability and experience/knowledge of sustainable energy, construction, manufacturing or engineering is an advantage.

Post subject to final confirmation of project funding.

Working as the Sustainable Energy Project Leader to lead the Strategic Development Fund team, you will manage the SDF project through the development of low carbon, sustainable curriculum and resources, including effectively planning, monitoring and reporting all activities to meet financial and participant outputs.

You will have experience of working in a project management environment, including line management of a small team, and working on complex projects from planning through to evaluation. You will have experience working towards sustainable/low carbon energy goals in a commercial environment.

You will be educated to NVQ Level 4 and have excellent communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations successfully to varied audiences. Experience of working under pressure with the ability to take responsibility and solve problems is required for the role.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To manage the SDF external funded project through the development of low carbon, sustainable curriculum and resources 
  • Effectively plan, monitor and report all activities to meet financial and participant outputs.   

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Take the lead in planning and implementation of a robust curriculum plan to meet the sustainable curriculum needs of local businesses, achieving challenging outputs.

  2. Effectively line manage project team to ensure all challenging outputs are met.

  3. Monitor, review and report to Senior Management on the financial and recruitment progress of the project against target, including capital spend.

  4. Collaborate with marketing specialists to produce a strategy to support project recruitment and events.

  5. Organise specialised professional development opportunities for staff associated with the project across Lancashire.

  6. Take the lead in supporting the development of project capital resources.

  7. Manage administration and audit processes to ensure they meet required standards, including effective line management of associated administrative staff.

  8. Engage with local employers through networking opportunities, attendance at events and meetings to identify skills gaps and work collaboratively to produce an employer led curriculum.

  9. Engage effectively with the Lead Organisation and The Lancashire College Group to successfully manage the project.

  10. Engage effectively with curriculum teams to maximise opportunities to enhance and enrich teaching and learning for current students.

    a. Engage effectively with central cross college teams to ensure all standards and requirements are met such as: Health and Safety, Information Services, Finance and Personnel.

  11. Manage the development of learning resources utilising external expertise.

  12. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Appropriate experience in a project management environment
  • Experience of working on complex projects from planning through to evaluation
  • Experience of engaging with local employers and internal departments
  • Experience of working towards  sustainable/low carbon energy goals in a commercial environment

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience in market research
  • Experience of working in an education-related field
  • Some line management /supervisory experience in a multi-functional team

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form

  • Minimum Level 4 qualification 
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above (or equivalent Level 2)

  • Team Leading or Supervisory Management Qualification

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver presentations successfully to a varied audience
  • Good understanding of current environmental issues; ability to articulate these clearly and factually; and commitment to a solutions-focussed approach

  • Excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Office
