Job Description

Training Co-ordinator – Energy, Engineering & Construction 
£23,890 - £25,411 per annum 
37 hours per week

Do you want to play a major role in developing apprenticeships in the workplace? 

Lancaster and Morecambe College are seeking a Training Co-ordinator to work within our Energy, Engineering and Construction department, supporting our learners to achieve. You will coordinate the apprentice journey throughout the duration of their apprenticeship and promote and develop positive outcomes for all. You will develop strong working relationships with employers, apprentices, and their tutors to ensure the apprentice is being supported to achieve.

You should have a willingness to learn, a ‘can-do’ attitude and enjoy working as part of a team. An attention to detail is essential for this role along with good IT skills. You should enjoy working in a busy environment, have excellent people skills and a current driving licence. A knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety is desirable in this role or the willingness to undertake training in this area. You should have GCSE Grades 4/C or above in Maths and English.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To play a major role in developing apprenticeships in the workplace by facilitating the department’s relationship with employers, supporting learners to achieve and promoting apprenticeships with new employers

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Co-ordinate the work-based learning elements of Apprenticeships in Construction and Engineering.  

  2. Lead and coordinate the enrolment process; baseline assessments (maths, English, skills, knowledge and behaviours); and induction onto the relevant programme, ensuring that all initial learner records are completed accurately for full compliance at audit.

  3. Monitor apprentices’ progress throughout the duration of their course, with a focus on attendance; 20% ‘off the job training’ requirements; and overall progress. Liaise closely with course lecturers / assessors and employers to ensure all apprentices are being tracked accurately. Identify apprentices at risk and enable timely completion of End Point Assessments (EPA). 

  4. Visit employers and apprentices in the workplace to complete 12-week progress reviews within specified timescales. Communicate and act on issues that arise. Complete exit reviews with learners, including learner / employer feedback and discuss progression and further opportunities in college or elsewhere.  

  5. Undertake Health and Safety risk assessments, ensuring that the placement is suitable and meets the required standards, in line with contractual requirements.  Monitor and review Health and Safety at regular intervals.

  6. Where issues with learning, progress or quality are identified, negotiate and work closely with Programme Area Manager, Lecturers and employers to achieve effective resolution, seeking advice and support from the Pastoral and Learning Services teams as appropriate and referring more serious or complex cases to the Apprenticeships Manager in a timely manner.

  7. Where issues with employment are identified, negotiate and mediate a resolution to benefit both parties and ensure continued successful progression of both the apprentice and employer relations.  Where appropriate draw upon the knowledge and expertise of internal colleagues and keep the Apprenticeships Manager appraised of more serious or complex issues.

  8. Carry out, as required, reviews into any incidents or safeguarding concerns in liaison with the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team and the Safeguarding Manager

  9. Maintain close links with the Apprenticeship Administration team to ensure that all paperwork is completed to meet funding requirements and Gateway to EPA is reached efficiently. Keep abreast of changes to apprenticeship standards and EPA and communicate these effectively to Lecturers and employers. 

  10. Meet regularly with lecturers, supporting them with identifying when an apprentice is ready for EPA.  Work with the Apprentice, Employer, Lecturers and Apprenticeship Administration to manage and coordinate the EPA process.

  11. Market and promote all aspects of the College’s work with current and new employers and participate in the wider activities of the College (including attending meetings, exhibitions, celebration of achievement events and marketing events) as required.

  12. Participate in all aspects of the Apprenticeship Quality cycle, from providing accurate advice and guidance, presentations at college assessment boards and support the writing of the self-assessment report and quality improvement plan.

  13. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Awareness and/or experience of apprenticeships 
  • Experience of working with young people and/or adults in an educational capacity
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety legislation applicable to the Energy, Construction & Engineering Standards

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Providing advice and guidance to employers and prospective apprentices
  • Experience working in the construction / engineering sector
  • Operational experience of Health & Safety legislation applicable to the Energy, Construction & Engineering Standards

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • A recognised qualification in area of occupational competence (level 3 or above)
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification for example: IOSH, NEBOSH

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates
