Job Description

Salary Range Support Scale, Fixed Point 30
£26,308 pro rata per annu
Department Apprenticeships & Employer Engagement
Hours per Week 30 hours per week
Terms of Employment Temporary Full Year Support Contract for 6 months  
Annual Leave Entitlement 26 Days pro rata + Bank Holiday entitlement and College Closure Days
Responsible to Director of Apprenticeships & Employer Engagement

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To take a lead in developing and delivering training in employability skills to support the local economy
  • To manage, co-ordinate and deliver all employability qualifications, working closely with the local JCP to maximise the impact of the programmes

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and deliver high quality teaching and learning using a flexible range of engaging strategies to promote learning, taking responsibility for the continual development of own teaching and related curriculum.
  2. Establish classroom delivery practice that can be adapted to digital delivery should this be required.
  3. Plan and manage a range of employability qualifications and short courses to support adult learners in the district. 
  4. Work closely with the engagement team, to maximise volume of learners supporting the current labour market requirements and need.
  5. Monitor learner progress from initial assessment through to progression and destination through positive engagement with learners. 
  6. Work effectively with cross college functions to ensure timely and accurate information to support learner recruitment and achievement, for example: work with exams to ensure all learners are registered and claimed in a timely manner.
  7. Carry out IV of learners’ portfolios in line with awarding body criteria. 
  8. Create a positive working relationship on behalf of the College with local job centre plus, meeting and exceeding their customer needs.
  9. Other duties commensurate with the grade of post as required.

Skills & Experience Required


Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Awareness / experience of delivering high quality teaching and learning
  • Experience of supporting people in an educational environment
  • Good working knowledge and experience of key employability skills
  • Willingness to gain further specialist industrial experience by shadow-working with the college’s employer links


Essential - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • Minimum L5 qualification in Education & Training 
  • Level 3 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent Assessor Award
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*

* You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates

Desirable - Measured by application form, interview and assessment*

  • Health and Safety Qualification
  • Level 4 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award or equivalent 

Skills / Abilities

  • Organised and good attention to detail, with ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
  • Good classroom skills and continual development of excellence in teaching & learning delivery
  • Excellent oral, IT and written communication skills
