Job Description

Work Placement Co-ordinator – Health Care, Child Education & Business 
Salary £23,149 per annum
37 hours per week

Working alongside Course Tutors, you will develop learners’ employability skills in preparation for T Level industry placements by establishing relevant work experience and placement opportunities for students.  You will have excellent communication skills, experience of working in an administrative role and a desire to see our students succeed in their future careers.

During periods when students are on industry placement the postholder will be required to be on call, this may include early and late shifts; if called upon time off in lieu will be given.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities

Job Purpose:  

  • To work alongside Course Tutors in developing students’ employability skills in preparation for T Level industry placements by establishing relevant work experience and placement opportunities for students in Health Care, Child Education & Business, including the supervision and management of college-based projects
  • To support the development of high-quality industry placements through the Capacity & Delivery Fund (CDF) and T Level funding, building capacity and establishing strong links with employers in the sector

*During periods when students are on industry placement the postholder will be required to be on call, this may include early and late shifts; if called upon time off in lieu will be given. 

Key Tasks / Responsibilities:

  1. Track and monitor work experience for each individual student and complete all administrative tasks accurately including student records; employer records; Health and Safety checks; and all additional administration associated with industry placement and funding requirements.

  2. Supervise students on work experience / placement and give formal written feedback as per documentation.

  3. Supervise and manage all work experience and college-based projects, ensuring the maintenance of rigorous Health and Safety procedures and work-related evidence for each learner, working closely with the Health & Safety team to ensure all requirements are in place.

  4. Network with employers/charities/wider community to identify sustained work experience/ placement opportunities for learners. Additionally, identify extended occupation-specific placements which meet the requirements of CDF and T Levels, and work to ensure that all necessary criteria are met.

  5. Work with the Marketing department at Lancaster and Morecambe College to maximise publicity opportunities

  6. Support tutors in organising, promoting and monitoring work placement/experience for all students in the department, particularly monitoring and supporting opportunities for learners with SEND to access high quality external industry placements in the same way as other learners.

  7. Maintain up to date records of College links with both established and new employers in the local engineering sector and construction trades.

  8. Attend all course team/Programme Area meetings.

  9. Other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as required.

Skills & Experience Required

Experience 

Essential - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of working in a relevant industry and/or education and specifically with young people
  • Experience of working in an administrative role and liaising with employers
  • Experience of financial costing of project work / real jobs etc.
  • Supervisory and operational experience of managing projects within relevant industries

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Experience of delivering training or workshops
  • Knowledge and understanding of FE curriculum

Qualifications

Essential - Measured by application form and interview* 

  • Minimum level 3 qualification in administration and/or relevant subject area
  • GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)*

*You will be required to undertake a Literacy and/or Numeracy assessment at, or immediately after interview, if you do not have these qualifications or cannot provide the relevant certificates

Desirable - Measured by application form and interview

  • Health and Safety qualification
  • Preparatory Certificate in Education & Training (PCET) or Level 3 Training Assessment and Quality Assurance Award (one of these to be achieved within specified timescale)
