LMC Warriors Smash 10 Mile Course Raising £3k for Charity
The Tackling Inactivity project has raised an incredible amount of £3,047.84 following a series of fundraising activities, with over £2,000 coming from the staff 10 mile obstacle race which tested runners with hills, rivers, 100 tons of mud, 10 tons of ice and 25 gruelling challenges.
Obstacles including crawling through tunnels and under muddy nets, a plunge in an ice bath, running through hundreds of electric wires, climbing walls and many more.
The event was arranged after student feedback told the LMC Tackling Inactivity project that students appeared to appreciate the physical benefits of exercise, but didn't necessarily recognise the mental benefits being active could bring. In an attempt to change that, the project organised a series of events to raise money for Lancashire Mind - culminating in the staff 10 Mile Total Warrior Obstacle Course race.
The staff team was made up from Marketing, Student Services and the Tackling Inactivity project team. All completed the course in just over 2 hours and 30 minutes and did the whole thing with a smile on their faces - well, apart from the electrocution and ice bath sections!
Tackling Inactivity Project Leader, Adam said, “I’m really proud of the team. The challenge was never going to be easy but we worked well together to overcome the obstacles, and more importantly, I think we achieved exactly what we set out to. We’ve raised well over our initial target for Lancashire Mind and combined with all of the other events, certainly raised awareness of the benefits of physical activity on mental health around College.
As ever, we want things to be bigger and better next year and we are already considering our next challenge! A big thank you from the whole team to everyone who donated.”
Celebration time! L-R: Helen Luszczak, Team Captain Adam Cowperthwaite, Liam Williams, Lukas Brown, Conor Adams, Libby Thwaites, Gemma Miller and Sara Earl.
