Apprenticeships Night a Huge Success!
Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC) welcomed almost 40 local and national employers and more than 150 families to their Apprenticeship Information Evening on Wednesday.
Held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, the evening offered potential apprentices the opportunity to speak to a number of employers who offer apprenticeships through the college and other companies who work in partnership with the College. Visitors could find out what employers are looking for in a potential employee, from companies including, Briscoe Construction, Army Careers, SQ Digital, English Lakes Hotels, UCLan, The Bay Horse Inn, Prestige Salon, Lancaster Training Services (LTS) and last year’s LMC Apprentice Awards Employer of the Year Connect 2 Cleanrooms.
Speaking of the evening, Cpl Brian Powell, Army Careers, said ‘It was a very positive evening for us and it generated a lot of interest in what the Army has to offer. I thought your facilities were brilliant and it was a very good evening. Thank you for involving us.’
Holywell Care Group representative, Luke Dewhurst, added, “We had an amazing amount of interest at our stall, with numerous people taking application forms and job descriptions. We would certainly like to attend next year’s apprenticeship evening after some really positive engagements with students and parents also!”
“The event was a massive success and we had so much interest I am sure we will attend again in the future” Helen Chadwick, Lancashire Constabulary Apprenticeship Officer.
As well as meeting employers and the College’s apprenticeship teams, visitors also had the opportunity to learn how to successfully secure an Apprenticeship. More and more young people are choosing to follow the Apprenticeship route after school, and are keen to find out how to go about it. This was certainly reflected in how busy the event was, with more visitors attending than any other year.
LMC Apprenticeship Manager, Jayne Roper, explained why she was pleased with the event, “The success of the evening has highlighted the continued commitment from local employers to work with the College and support our efforts to raise the understanding of apprenticeships. We were thrilled to see so many people at our event who were able to receive advice and guidance and discuss job opportunities with employers. Positive feedback has been received and we are looking forward to building on future events.”
As part of the #LMC100in100 campaign which aims to have 100 apprentices signed up in 100 days, the Apprenticeship Information Evening boosted the campaign total to 37 in the first 23 days.
