Erasmus+ Internship in Poland

Posted: 15.05.2019

Mucking in!

For 3 weeks in April, a small group of LMC Animal Studies students carried out their Erasmus+ Internship in Poland. At one of Poland‘s best zoos, set in the forests of Oliwa near Gdansk, the students shadowed experienced zoo keepers in their everyday tasks and immersed themselves to learn new skills. The students kept a working diary of their experiences and completed a Europass mobility document on their return to validate their skills and record their development. This year one member of staff went out with them, whilst another ensured they made it home safely in the final week.

The zoo has invested a lot in recent years in updating the animals’ accommodation with the monkeys, zebras, giraffes and lions having benefited from investment in new purpose built, spacious enclosures.

Melanie and Karen getting stuck in!

This alpaca’s name is Gabi. She lives separately from others. When Gabi was 3 weeks old, her mum died so since then zoo keepers have taken care of her. Gabi lives with goats, rabbits and chickens, and she really likes human contact. Now, she is 3 year’s old and is one of the most loved inhabitants of Gdansk Zoo.

This Erasmus+ project is funded until 2020 and next year another LMC group will benefit from this lifechanging work experience.
