LMC Students Present Creations at End of Year Show
On 24th-25th May Lancaster & Morecambe College’s very first degree cohort presented their final pieces as part of the BA (Hons) Music Production showcase event.
The students, their friends and family, as well as staff attended the event along with a number of key figures in the local music scene.
The event was the result of the students’ final module Music & Multimedia, and saw students create works suitable for the public domain. These varied in style with pieces such as a modern reimagining of The Planets as an electronic composition, taking influence from inspiration Gustav Holst, a student who chose to tell the life story of musical instruments through filming their destruction and repurposing and composing a soundtrack from the resulting instruments, another took the narrative from a section of a video game that is currently in development and create a score to fit that purpose.
The College has uploaded the videos to YouTube where you can see and hear what they have been creating – you may be surprised what a Music Production degree can lead to, both in terms of output and prospective careers.
Louis Davy, Music Course Leader, commented “With this show we have given our students the platform to demonstrate just what they are capable of. This group of students contains some of the most gifted people I have ever had the privilege to meet and teaching them, some of whom joined us straight from finishing their GCSEs six years ago on our Level 2 Music course, has been an honour. Jon Moore has lead this module brilliantly and the group have thrived under his tutelage.”
Wes Johnson, Principal & Chief Executive of Lancaster & Morecambe College, was in attendance and was thrilled with the show. Wes commented “We’re really proud of our music provision here at Lancaster & Morecambe College, and our new degree programme has really added to the richness of our provision. With passionate staff, motivated students and great facilities, the music department is a special element of our diverse college community.”
