Business Students head to Leadership Symposium
Following hosting the Working Options event, five students were given the opportunity to attend a prestigious leadership conference down in Harpenden, Hertfordshire.
There, students heard from influential and inspiring business leaders from Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's, Asda and Disney. They heard their stories about how they got to the positions they have been and are in, tips and ideas for successful leadership in business and mentoring opportunities that are available with the business leaders.
In addition the event hosted the Top New Talent Award Winners interview where students heard from the award winners, highlighting their journey and future career plans.
Students then heard from Dame Kelly Holmes herself. Dame Kelly spoke about her personal journey from humble beginnings, through a selection of challenging and in some cases dark times through to her amazing Olympic achievements. Hard work, dedication and self-belief were her key messages which students can apply to any aspect of their lives. Students were lucky enough to meet Dame Kelly afterwards and have a chat with her as well as the host of the event Jeremy Thompson (The voice of Sky News).
The students made a positive impact on the event, evident from the response received from the event organiser, Lauren Monk: “We as a team were so impressed that you came all the way from Lancaster for the conference. The feedback from our guests has also been very positive about the students and how engaged, bright and what a credit they are to the college”.
