Erasmus+ Italian Work Placement
Another European trip for our students... this time to beautiful Italy!
Students took part in a work placement project in Abruzzo, Italy as part of the STEM2 Erasmus+ KA1 project. Following a rigorous application and interview process, 16 students from Travel & Tourism, Business and Hospitality & Catering departed England for their two week, work placement opportunity.
The trip not only provided the students with an amazing selection of work related experiences, enhancing their learning journey at LMC, but it also gave them unique and life changing experiences that they can use in the future when applying for university or at job interviews.
Due to the varied nature of all the courses a wide variety of work placement experiences were available for the students. From assisting and running summer school activities for Italian children, to planning and pitching their travel itinerary for our visit to Rome, the first week was jam-packed with fun and unique experiences.
The second week included a Masterchef competition in a neighbouring village where students learnt how to prepare and cook some traditional Italian foods. This culminated in the final days by students preparing their dishes for a judging panel as part of a celebration event in the village. The celebration was an incredible event and the students really developed and excelled in their personal and employability skills.
As well as the work experience, students also visited a vineyard, had a tour of Vasto town where they enjoyed some very tasty Gelato, spent a day in Rome and visited a local aqua park. One student, Dylan Hattingh remarked “I had the best time of my life and I met the best bunch of people who made the trip amazing!” Fellow student Ellie Preddy added, “I learnt a lot and met some lovely people who have learnt about our culture as well as us learning about theirs. I loved every minute of it. I would love to do it again next year.”
The trip leader, Sarah Armstead said “I am so proud of the students, they undertook and embraced this placement opportunity with positivity, dedication and commitment as well as lots and lots of humour. Constantly developing their team working, communication and customer service skills, they were a credit to LMC and themselves, impressing everyone they worked with.”
