Congratulations to two of our Hospitality & Catering Level 3 students who have just been offered jobs at Michelin star restaurant, Northcote.  Both students impressed Executive Head Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen whilst on work placement earlier in the year, and have been invited back to begin work in the prestigious kitchen in September as full time employees.

As a former LMC Hospitality & Catering student, Lisa Goodwin-Allen has risen through the catering world to be appointed Executive Head Chef at Northcote and can clearly see something special in both our students to offer them a place in her kitchen.  She knows what it takes to be the best and now our students can hopefully follow in her footsteps.

Elle Wright, who came to LMC from Heysham High School, has been at college for 2 years, completing both her Level 2 and Level 3 Catering qualifications.  In the time she has been at college her self-confidence and culinary skills have improved dramatically and she enjoys nothing better than being in the kitchen cooking up another one of her dishes designed by herself. She has worked so hard over this final year, pushing and challenging herself, her hard work paid off as she was awarded the LMC John Lodge award for culinary excellence as part of this year’s LMC celebration event.  Unfortunately, Elle was unable to collect her award as she was one of the lucky 16 students picked to attend the work placement visit to Italy, all paid for by the ERASMUS+ project.  So whilst her name was read out she was cooking in an Italian kitchen with Italian chef Andrea Nepa as part of her work placement visit to Italy.  Her tutors have been so proud of her progression and achievement.  Her course tutor Adrian Law commented “Elle has been a fantastic student.  She has worked really hard, learning and developing her skills all the time.  She has taken all opportunities that have been available to her and has been rewarded with a position in a Michelin star restaurant, her dreams have come true.  We are all very proud of her achievements and wish her lots of luck in the future and hope to see her on Professional Masterchef in the near future!”.

Ewan Lawrenson-Mckie, who came to LMC from Lancaster Royal Grammar School has also been at college for 2 years, completing the Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.  His natural culinary skills have been honed and sharpened whilst at college and his ability and unique approach to ingredients have earned him the LMC Inter College MasterChef trophy earlier this year when he, along with 4 other LMC students competed in a cooking completion with Furness College.  Last year Ewan was the lucky recipient of the LMC John Lodge award for culinary excellence and was proud to pass it on this year to his fellow classmate, Elle. Ewan’s course tutor Andrew Winder said “Ewan has a great sense of flavour, he takes time to consider what ingredients will complement each other and has a keen eye for presentation.  We also wish him lots of luck in the future and see his career being very bright in the culinary world”.

If you see yourself as the next Gordon Ramsey or Lisa Goodwin-Allen then apply now at LMC, Elle says that “If food is your passion and you love working with other people and creating something unique that makes your customers smile, then LMC is the place to be!  There are so many opportunities that college provides, I’ve had an amazing time, learned so many different skills and developed massively as a chef and can’t wait to see what challenges await me at Northcote!”.
