Professionals share their experiences during Industry Week.
Charlotte Ayres, a qualified Assistant Psychologist and Care Co-ordinator met with a range of students from Level 2 and Level 3 in the Health & Social Care department at Lancaster & Morecambe College on the 28th January 2018.
As part of industry week Charlotte visited College to talk to the groups about how and what she studied in order to gain her current position in the Health and Social Care Industry. She also offered past experiences of working with a range of service users who have varied disabilities and support needs. Charlotte kindly gave up her time to inspire students who are wanting to work in the Health and Social Care sector. She travelled from Sheffield to share her wealth of experiences of what it is like to work in Health and Social Care in a large city.
This gave students the opportunity to ask questions during the professional talks and develop their understanding about the sector they would like to progress into. Students apply knowledge they have learnt in theory lessons and link it to the information they are provided with from professionals throughout the sessions.
Katie Wood, Lecturer in Health & Social Care said: “In Charlotte’s role as an Assistant Psychologist she has to discuss topics that are challenging but extremely beneficial to service users. Her journey from University to where she is now in such a short period of time is inspirational to students. Charlotte made links to communication theories we had learnt in lessons and this solidified the students learning”.
Imogen Key, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care Student said: “As a second year student this talk helped my understanding that all experiences in the Health and Social Care Sector is beneficial to a career in the nursing sector”.
Industry week is a fantastic opportunity for Child Education and Health and Social Care students to meet professionals from the industry. Students have the opportunity to experience talks from professionals, including a Neo-natal Nurse, Intensive Care Nurse and an Assistant Psychologist.
