Course taken at college: HNC Music
What did you do after College?
After college I accepted an unconditional offer at BIMM London (then Tech Music School) to enrol onto their BA Songwriting degree with a plan to make the most of the location of the university, the facilities they had to offer and the new pool of contacts from which I could begin to build a new network with.
How did you get into your career?
I believe I’m still ‘getting into’ my career. I’m forever evolving as a professional which makes my job really exciting. I have got to where I am by immersing myself in the London music scene and using my networks in the best way possible to get where I want to be - I wanted a certain type of career that didn’t really exist so I made it happen myself! I am now earning as a freelance songwriter, events organiser and charity campaigner and research developer. I still work a day job to supplement this but eventually I hope that I can earn a full time wage from my work within the music industry and charity sector.
What were the best bits about your course?
The tutors were excellent. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the college felt like a second home by the end of the year - it made me WANT to be in college learning. The worst thing was not realising my full potential whilst studying and so not utilising the facilities as much as I should have done.
Why did you choose Lancaster & Morecambe College?
I chose LMC as they offered a HNC which was a challenge after doing A-levels. I wanted to take my studies up a notch and LMC provided that!
How did LMC help you get where you are today?
The tutors really pushed me to not underestimate what I was capable of, facilitating my skills fully. This encouragement made me have the confidence to apply to university and move away from home which I was unsure of after my A-levels.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the same course?
DO IT - but make the most of your year - it flies by and you don’t realise how lucky you are to have so much knowledge and resources at your fingertips!
