Course taken: HNC in Health and Social Care
What are you planning to do after College?
I have been successful and gained a place at the University of Cumbria on their midwifery degree, I start this in September 2015.
What are the best bits about your course?
I like that we have to do 200 hours work in a care setting, this has given me relevant experience and I have learnt many transferable skills for the role of a midwife.
The tutors have been very supportive and I have made some great friends. Also learning how to write reflective accounts, reports and how to do presentations has been really good and will be very useful when I get to university.
Why did you choose your course?
I have been trying to get into midwifery for the past 3 years and I felt doing this course showed progression and I hoped it would give me something extra against the fierce competition for midwifery places.
Why did you choose Lancaster & Morecambe College?
I chose Lancaster & Morecambe College because I have studied here previously on the Access course which I thoroughly enjoyed.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the course?
Just go for it, if I can do it at the age of 38 with 3 children, then anyone can.
This course is very demanding, but you get a lot of support. It is a good bridge for university and you have many different options after completing the course if you are not clear on what you actually want to do.
